Wiki Wednesday #15 - Kitsune Mangaka / 漫画家キツネ
I don't speak Spanish. Sometimes if I know the basic idea of what something says, I can parse it. But, the only way for me to actually know any information about this UTAU is to use Google Translate.
A nice touch is that this UTAU comes with a PDF that explains usage for Spanish and with some information about the character. It's in Spanish and you can't easily Google Translate a PDF!
A decade ago this would be odd - most Spanish speaking users would do their best to post everything in English and would only start speaking Spanish when directly speaking to another Spanish speaking user. Just like the Russian fandom exploded, so did the Latino fandom. Now, this isn't some crazy concept - it's just an UTAU that was made by a Latino.
With Google Translate by my side, let's get into the meat of this article!
Who is Mangaka Kitsune?
Official Icon Provided with Bank |
Mangaka Kitsune is a Venezuelan furry made by @MangaKitsune on Twitter. His voice provider usually shortens his name to Manga, so I will too from this point forward. His species is defined as a "cat fox hybrid or whichever". His item is either mangoes or red apples and he loves sleeping! At the end of his description, it is stated that the user can change the details according to the song.
How are the banks?
Manga has three banks - a beta Spanish, a beta Japanese, and a 0.1 that combines Spanish and Japanese. Usually, I would go through each bank, but there are two things stopping me from that today. The first is that I have no test USTs for Spanish and the second is that the 0.1 is meant to be an improvement over the Beta Japanese. I did download and listen to the Beta Japanese, and it isn't too entirely different from the 0.1. For that reason, I'll only speak on the 0.1 bank and ignore the Beta banks.
The voice is entirely different from what I was expecting from a design like this one, but you'll see that for yourself in a moment.
The OTOs have something that is so strange to me.
That sample is 0.6 seconds long, and only that much white space is available?! Of course, I'm not the biggest fan of how the overlap and preutterance are set, but that small amount of white space is enough to make me whip out SetParam to fix that quickly.
Manga has a voice that grows on you, and using him is a bit like eating popcorn. Fixing the OTOs on one sample makes you just want to fix another! But, I don't really have the time to be doing that right now!
If I had to come up with a phrase that perfectly described this UTAU, it would be "2011 Latino Male Furry". Ironically, this bank was released in 2018!
Where can I download Mangaka Kitsune?
Manga's download link is on his Wiki.dot page. If you like this specific, robotic voice type, this UTAU is amazing for you! But if you were never into this kind of microphone quality with this kind of accent, I understand ignoring this UTAU. If Manga's voice provider reads this and still wants tips on how to improve, I'd be happy to help ☺️

ReplyDeleteHi there :D ! Thank you so much for your kind words!! I followed you on Twitter, but I can't send a direct message yet.
DeleteI don't tweet anymore, but we can talk over direct messages :D
Sure! :D but maybe I don't answer you immediately... (for my internet :p) But you may to send me a message for initiate a conversation!;D
DeleteIf you can't find the manga you're looking for there, then you will need to look for sites that offer a free download of the anime comic. These sites will typically give you a free manga online reader (which will be a flash player), as well as some files needed to download the manga.
