Wiki Wednesday #108 - 雪音ねむき / Yukine Nemuki

I was searching up and down for one bank UTAUs. I'm still annoyed at myself for spending tonight making a word-list for MEL, but you know how it is. You see someone wanting to record English using a bad list, and you just want to say "Here, look, I made it so easy, you don't even need to know phonemes!"

Wiki Wednesday #108 - 雪音ねむき / Yukine Nemuki

So, in researching I ended up going down a philosophical rabbit hole. Japanese ghost stories have a bit of a reputation for being downright silly sometimes. There's a demon (a yōkai to be technical) that just… licks dirty bathrooms.

I googled to see if yōkai are widely believed in, but there's no straight answer. One article even claimed it was an extension of Japan's polytheism, putting a talking shoe on the same level as Jupiter. Actually going to Wikipedia more properly accredits yōkai to the belief in Animism.

When reading through the history, you realize that people are fully aware that yōkai are made up for fictional stories. One guy made up around thirty of them for his manga. When people can reliably point out that something is entirely fictional, you can't describe them with any reverence as if it were analogous to Greek nymphs.

So, yeah. There are so many American shows about people hunting ghosts and Sasquatches. A formerly educational channel aired a mockumentary about mermaids existing and people actually took it as fact. Also, there's an entire genera of conspiracy theories that a man who was born in 1889 is still alive in Argentina.

So yeah, even with all of the Japanese content flooding the lives of loner teens, the anglosphere still tries to make the country seem wacky and "other".

Usually this is after the break, but ya know, I was seriously curious about this.

Forgotten Friday #118 - 御蔵イリ / Mikura Iri

I type faster on my computer, meaning it is technically faster to type an article completely on my computer in one go.  But like, I like bed. I like porch. It's not about time, it's about comfort. But with my phone down for the count, I guess computer is fine.

Forgotten Friday #118 - 御蔵イリ / Mikura Iri

This chica was my default CVVC bank for a while. I just randomly picked her out of my download folder one day, and the rest was history.

Let me give you a little insight. Back in the day, I thought, if I can find it and download it, I should share it. But now, I have a different idea. I should show what the voice provider currently endorses. So, this UTAU has all of their current banks on an online storefront. They also have old banks to download. Should I cover the ones not on the online storefront?

Naw. If it was a thing where all five acts were on the Wiki Page, I'd be like, dope, they recommend 5, but I'll still show off 1 too. But, online storefront vs link on the page that links to the storefront! Big, big difference in hierarchy.

Wiki Wednesday #107 - 草声ネム / Sousei Nemu

So, something really strange happened. I... click and dragged and a link to Trackdancer's latest article on LearnMMD ended up in the body here and now the font looks funny. So strange. I wasted about an hour going through and making sure every UTAU on my spreadsheet to seventy had the information on their wiki page. I added the information for three UTAUs, and one actually had no information in his bank at all. Strange. I was annoyed I wasted the time, but I'm happy I did it so that all of those UTAUs can be written about quickly without worry about missing information. Then I wasted uh... maybe three hours making a word version of my English list. I did not spend any of my time wisely so far.

Wiki Wednesday #107 - 草声ネム / Sousei Nemu

I am really happy! Basically, except for one note I left myself, 228 through 257 have been written about.

Doing the samples can take anywhere from ten minutes to nearly two hours. I mean, one UTAU had nine samples I had to make. One I just really wanted to make pretty. But because I reach for six hundred words on the phone sections, I can literally just go "here it is. She sounds nice." That's so awesome! Also, limiting myself to only be doing it during free internet time means I can't get burnt out as easily. I did five and I want to do five more, but if I did ten, would I want to do five tomorrow? Mind you, if I did UTAUs with one one pitch cv bank, I could do three in an hour!

But I do get distracted.

Forgotten Friday #117 - 俺歌武納 / Orega Munou

You know how I always say something or another about how Mus musculus and Homo sapiens have the same likelihood of plans falling apart? I... it's a doozy.

Forgotten Friday #117 - 俺歌武納 / Orega Munou

This is hyperbole: my phone exploded.

It didn't actually explode. I was just working on an article and then I heard a "pop". I saw the case was hanging off of it, so I tried to push the phone back into the case. Well... uh... The back of the phone had popped off. But, it was soaked in glue. So, as you can surmise, the glue leaked out enough so that the back of the phone was now glued to the case.

I had a very bad reaction to this whole ordeal, but my mom was able to pinch it shut and tape it down so that I had access to the charging port. I was able to dump everything from the phone to my desktop (Android for life), and now it's just hanging out on my desk. I'm afraid to move it because it's just a strip of packing tape holding it together.

I will get a new phone, but I... am not safe to leave the house right now.

So, if my phone isn't doing so well, how am I writing this? Well, as you can probably tell from my font, I'm writing this inside of blogger, on my laptop keyboard. Positively scandalous.

Funny thing is just that my phone works perfectly well. It's just that it is held together with tape. This stuff never happens to iPhones, but like, the phone was inexpensive enough that it's no big deal to replace it. And, my iPhone refused to be backed up in iTunes and transferring photos from my phone to my PC may have made me cry in frustration a few times.

Anyway, here's an article on an UTAU I had never heard of.

Wiki Wednesday #106 - みと おとまき / Mito Otomaki

So, this UTAU was such a joke, the voice provider didn't even bother to get the name correct on the download. Mito Otosaki as opposed to Mito Otomaki. I thought it might be a name change, but the supplemental information inside listed the correct name of Mito Otomaki. I love when no flips are given.

Wiki Wednesday #106 - みと おとまき / Mito Otomaki

So, I'm on my phone right now. Let me get this out of the way real quick. Mito is a joke utau. Ghoulia, his voice provider, did release him after hearing how nice he sounded.

It's okay for anyone to wear whatever clothes that they're legally allowed to wear. (Ya know, you gotta have decorum and not run around in clothes that aren't clothes enough in public.) Drag is huge right now. Expression is good. What isn't good is using transphobic language to describe your joke characters. And guess what?! Ghoulia explicitly states that you are not to use transphobic language to refer to Mito.

To make Mito even more socially aware, people confuse him for young boy most of the time, not a woman. I was really worried when I saw in his bio who he was friends with, but he's totally socially fine! There's nothing to call out here.

Forgotten Friday #116 - Re:Re:のルベルム / Rubellum

I don't know how I missed this in all of the searching, but "Lilium rubellum" is a plant. The other UTAU is Lilium, this one is Rubellum. It is a very beautiful flower. Nothing like what I assumed Rubellum was. How did I miss this?!

Forgotten Friday #116 - Re:Re:のルベルム / Rubellum

It took way, way too long to figure out that Rubellum was named after Monadenium rubellum. The reason it took so long was because that's not the actual name. It's really Euphorbia neorubella.

It's a freaking creepy plant. The main image on the site where I finally got the name from, which also that confirmed Euphorbia neorubella is actually Ruberumu in Japan, was creepy. It looked like potatoes standing above the pot with gnarled flowering asparagus twisting and contorting.

Like… it's a creepy plant for a creepy UTAU.

Wiki Wednesday #105 - songcatのつぐみ / Tsugumi

So, here's the stage being set for this article. I was jacked up in the head but working on this stuff. Well, then the internet just mysteriously stopped working at certain times. We called out a technician, and it turned out that the dish hadn't been securely placed. So, they fixed that and it worked perfectly from the hours of 10 AM to 10 PM. Well... It stopped working period. They were extremely apologetic, and sent out someone again. Now it works fully! However, it didn't work at all when this article was written.

Wiki Wednesday #105 - songcatのつぐみ / Tsugumi

So! I was feeling sad and I couldn't use internet on my computer. I decided I'd just do research on the UTAU visual archive to get banks for wiki Wednesday. Well, here's the thing about that. My original criteria was, in fact, a bank qualifies for forgotten Friday if it hasn't been used on YouTube in five years. Well… in early 2016, there had been about 2,225 entries in the visual archive… and most qualified due to never being posted on YouTube at all.

I started this blog at the tail end of 2018 if I remember correctly. So the criteria was 2013 or before. Two or so years have passed, so now the criteria is somewhere around 2016. This is crazy to me, and means that banks that should be in forgotten Friday are now in wiki Wednesday.

So, if I could stick to a plan and make it happen, here is what I would do.

First, I would exhaust every wiki Wednesday bank that I have on my computer. I'd go all the way through and get that all sorted. I would have two years of articles posted and would not need to touch that series for two years. (That won't happen with my scatter brain!) Then, I work though ruto.yu for pre-2013 banks. However, those can get painfully boring… so that's where the archive comes in. At random, I'll flip from ruto.yu and the archive just to spice things up. Wiki Wednesday will be taken care of in this fantasy, so I can check the banks against my blog itself to make sure they weren't already covered.

The easier option is to just go with the flow and go on downloading binges when I want to. But that's not very rainbow of me.

Wiki Wednesday #104 - LeLias Melaven

This was the first article that I had started on my phone! It has context for what's been going on while writing the last seven or so articles. I knew I was going to switch things around to accommodate not spamming families, but I didn't expect for the first to be the eighth!

Wiki Wednesday #104 - LeLias Melaven

So, this is my first attempt at doing this. Everyone has heard it five thousand times… I'm mentally ill. I have bipolar disorder, and it is severe to the point of being a disability. Well, at least, if I treat it as a disability, I can live a happy, idyllic life. (I spent years telling myself it didn't hold me back and that I couldn't slow down, but I was self imploding.)

My worst manic episode since 2018 began recently. I started playing an emulator on my phone and forgetting about life being a thing. I just stayed in bed playing the same game for hours. It was nice. I was able to stay calm and the mania didn't progress and is starting to subside, but playing fast and loose will get rid of the progress hiding from life got me.

But, the anxiety does pop up, even when I'm mostly brain dead from games. The first thing I absolutely learned when this bout of mania hit was that sitting in front of my computer screws my head up something awful. But, not working on this blog makes me feel anxious also. What can I do?

This. I'm writing this on my phone! I cannot process the samples on my phone, but I can write down all of the character information from the sites and wikia. I won't be able to get any information from the readme or character files because I'm on my phone, but this is Wiki Wednesday! Most of the information should be available without any downloads.
