Wiki Wednesday #93 - アックア・行夫 / Yukio Acqua
This is the second time recently to stop and try to figure out Asian name ordering. It's Family name, Given name. So, Acqua is the family name, and Yukio is the given name, and it is mirrored by the romanized name being Given name, Yukio; Family name, Acqua. And thank goodness. My fingers would be tied from typing Acqua after a while. (I think words and then I type them. I have no idea where the keys are. So I have to type something I don't have memorized (i.e. Acqua) and I have to pause and think "okay but... where is the 'c'?! I don't know!") Somehow, Japanese escapes that issue and I can copy it no problem... half the time. Then it's my dyslexia making me say "Is it Fuyuyu or Fufuyu?!"
So, anyway!
Who is Acqua Yukio?

Yukio is an eighteen year old dude. His one dream in life is to become an idol. However, his steps into the limelight have mostly been as a bass player at live concerts. Now, I'm just wondering what they mean by bass. Do they mean the electric one at a rock show, or a fancy one in an orchestra? I like the theory that he's this spunky, can't hold me down pop star who just ends up in a suit and tie playing bass in the string section.
He is half Japanese and half Italian. Both of his parents were opera singers, which is partially what drove him to want to be a singer so badly.
There's a weird little discrepancy in his bio depending on the reading. So, he dislikes bland foods and pepper. That's strange, as pepper, either powder black stuff or chile, is one of the most popular ways to season food. However, in the Japanese localization of a Disney movie, a kid refusing to eat broccoli was replaced with a kid refusing to eat bell pepper. Bell peppers are bland as heck, and there's a cultural precedent, so that's dope!
He loves fashion, idol merch, ramen, and sweets. He dislikes people who have bad manners.
How is Yukio Acqua's bank?
Six were promised that have not been released. Y'all know what I say - the moment you say it, it doesn't happen. Idoltrash has been editing the page about once a month... I don't know why... So, there is definitive proof that the promised banks haven't happened and I'm not just looking hard enough.
So, Yukio only has one bank available. It is a one pitch, two mora, CVVC bank. (I'll never get over how strange two mora CVVC banks feel to me.) There are breaths and samples to help with English or Italian. He also comes with something that adds a "Setup..." button to the character screen in UTAU. Not clicking it, but it's there. The average pitch is G3.
I just feel like it. The OTOs are decent and I previously regenerated an UTAU's OTOs to make the sample sound nicer earlier tonight. So, I'm going to play with CVVC. The voice has a quality to it that makes it sound artificial. The only way I can describe it is Kenta Chikune, and I don't know what resampler you could throw at it to get that quality to go away. If you love UTAUs for the quirky, robotic side, then this bank needs to be high on your to-use list. The OTOs are great out of the box (I literally didn't care enough to edit anything I saw as imperfect because it was close enough every single time I looked). It's just a really good UTAU. If you require human vocals and not quirky robot vocals, you won't be the happiest, though.
Where can I download Acqua Yukio?
You can get him from his UTAU Wiki page. I really hope he gets more banks, because there is so much care and potential put into his core cvvc bank. But, even with just Core CVVC, it's perfect for anyone who wants a more usable and less grating Kenta Chikune.
