happy valentine's day!
Forgotten Friday #320 - 樽井もちゅ / Tarui Mochu
Mochi is a thirteen year old girl who loves sleeping. What in the heck is even going on with the Japanese internet? The amount of link rot I'm running into here is insane. I had to have a super lucky break to find this bank. I open the readme and it gives me a URL for a website. Super cool!! Maybe Mochu had more banks!
Link rot.
Who is Mochu Tarui?

"It was like... The two-thousands, right?" Samantha squirmed a bit. "And there was this suburb, where my house is. There was a boy and he was put under so much pressure... His skin turned white and he needed sleep, so he slept and slept until he stopped waking up. And now when it's time for me to sleep, he appears in a bed. And he doesn't wake up. He just goes away until it's time to sleep again. And it's so scary I can't be home."
"That's..." The lawyer didn't want to be rude. "That sounds like a ghost, not a cryptid."
"I don't know the difference." Samantha looked away. "But like, I guess that's better than accusing me of taking a creepypasta too seriously."
John looked towards the wall. He thought. He looked back at Samantha. "There's a chance that the black mold wasn't your fault. If you go to the hospital, on my dime, and get fully checked out to make sure that this isn't a delusion, I'll buy your house. Even if it is a delusion and there is no spirit or cryptid, I'll still buy it from you. Either I get a video or you get healthy."
"Really?" Samantha gasped. "I would do whatever you want!"
The lawyer gave a quick nod to John. "Honestly, I'm a little sick of city life. Your house is a bit out of the way, but I actually do prefer working remote when possible."
"We can get this started for you." John smiled. "It will take a bit for all of the paperwork to get settled. You have a place to stay while we wait for the banks to sort everything out?"
"Yeah," Samantha nodded. "With my parents."
"If this all goes through," the lawyer smiled without showing her teeth, "you can tell your parents that you'll be out of their house in no time. I think we've got a lot of work ahead of us, but it will all work out!"
Samantha smiled. "Thank you... So much!"
They wrapped up the meeting. Once Samantha was gone, John looked over to the lawyer.
"The funny thing is... I feel like we're the ones scamming her." He shook his head. "This feels like something that we have to jump on, regardless of if a video could be made out of it."
"John," she rolled her eyes. "Mold remediation is no joke. And it's not just mold. It's a cheap McMansion. I did look over all of the inspections and it might be cheaper to just knock the whole thing down... And it's a suburb. We won't be selling the land to a developer to put a mall on it." She paused. "But, I would like to live in the suburbs and have my own garden. Even if it's just a little one."
"You're fully on board?" John learned back in his chair.
"I lived in a forest for the first half of my life!" She laughed. "What is some mold to me?"
How is Tarui Mochu's bank?
Who knows if Mochu has more banks! The visual archive snapshot is from 2023, but it's not a guarantee it would have been edited if there were more banks by then.
So I found one bank and the visual archive says there is one bank. It's a one pitch CV. Here's a silly tip. I learned about the P flag when learning about C+V. You can customize how much UTAU does "peak correction" (compression?). Why is that in quotes? It's normalization. It's just to what degree (or not) you're making all of the notes the same volume. In this bank, the "chi" sample has a really, really loud consonant. You can either edit the really loud fricative in the oto or use P0 to get rid of the normalization (or set it low, but I'm a min-maxer). The P0 option won't help if everything else is randomly different volumes.
Anyway, her voice is sweet and adorable.
Where Can I download Mochu Tarui?
First, you need to use the way back machine to access her visual archive page. Then you need to clean the link to her release video because fc2 forces you to go through a "are you sure you want to leave" page. Then you need to copy the link to her bank from the snapshot of that video and then paste it into your address bar because you finally don't need the way back machine. Anyway! Here's a snapshot of the release video that includes the distribution link.
