Axfc is a jerk. Here's my post on how to get downloads from there to work.

Multi-pitch CVVC banks do not work properly with the shareware A for automatic button!! Any articles where I complain about CVVC banks being broken is my own fault for not figuring it out sooner!!

Wiki Wednesday #186 - Aka_ne

gotta go fast! I have an unrealistic idea of how much I can get done.

Wiki Wednesday #186 - Aka_ne

This bank was made by Bewareofplastic and Tsoyukiku. I was tempted to put both names in the title, but I thought that would be crowded. Aka Ne is 23 and a woman. She likes clubbing and jokes. She hates dumb people, but is still kind.

Who is Aka_ne?

"Supposedly" fictional Chia here.

Claire popped her gum again before crossing her arms across her chest and beginning to stand. I held up a hand and instructed her to sit down.

Claire truly believed she was human, so she was humored. She was tested, poked, and prodded. The first test confirmed, with no possibility of error, that she was not human in any sense of the word. I imagined that the test that did her in would be a genetic test. Instead, the test that proved she wasn't human was a simple brain scan required for every new recruit.

One of the most amazing feats of evolution, in my eyes, was the multi-stem brain. In Claire's case, her brain had four distinct lobes connected by a white, squishy substrate. The lobes are able to create tunnels and connections so that the lobes function, mechanically, almost just like any normal animal brain. Each lobe had its own stem, hence the multi-stem.

What makes it so amazing is simply the compartmentalization. Brain transplants aren't a thing. Have they been done? Only by mad scientists who usually went to jail. Even with our "magical" alien technology, it just doesn't work.

That is, unless the patient has a multi-stem brain like Claire.

The lobes were regulation, processing, movement, and personality. The lobes did have redundancy - the regulation lobe was capable of movement in response to stimuli like pain. All of the lobes were technically removable except for regulation. Regulation could not be removed under any circumstance. It is impossible to remove it in a way that can be reattached.

However, that left three lobes. Humans are scary. Humans did these kinds of experiments. The difference between humans and Claire's species is the willingness of the patients.

Imagine being told that you can live like a king for the rest of your life… but you will have dyslexia. A powerful person could buy a new processing lobe for their dyslexic child as if it were buying a tutor.

Prisoners let themselves be picked apart. A cancer patient needs a new body? Switch personality lobes with a prisoner. The patient gets a healthy body, and the prisoner is allowed to roll the dice with whether chemo will work or not as a free person.

The most disturbing prisoner experiments, however, were when they just took the lobes and never replaced them. With only the regulation lobe, it was hard to watch. The regulation lobe was able to rewire itself to a degree using the milky goo around it to create extra channels for electrical signals. The prisoners could go through physical therapy to learn basic movements. Without external stimuli, they simply sat and blinked.

The personality lobe was the most malleable. It's an esoteric concept. Personality covered memories and mannerisms. Someone without a movement lobe could smile or wave if they had learned it before losing the lobe. Someone without the processing lobe could learn to understand people. Thankfully, vision and hearing were covered by the regulation lobe.

How much of the personality was stored in the tunnels in the substrate was up for debate. Removing completely or trying to replace it resulted in… well… only the regulation lobe would work after that.

Though, Claire didn't know any of that. Bringing up brain transplants around her instantly made her brag that Americans weren't evil Nazis. She really, really was convinced that America was the best, and she was American.

How is Aka_ne's bank?

She has an oto! Just no hiragana aliases. She has a nice voice, but it is very muffled and robotic.

Where can I download Aka_ne?

you can download her from her wiki page! She is nice if you like robotic voices.
