Mina opened her eyes. She knew she was meant to be in an initialization room, but it wasn't like anything she knew an initialization room to be. The walls were blue with patterns like they were meant to be read as something digital.
She felt off.
"Hello! Thank goodness!"
She had been trained that in an initialization room, the developer would appear in person. Well, their body would appear in front of her. Instead, there was just a screen with low quality webcam footage. She leaned and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Yes, hello." She paused. The developer said nothing. "Look, I cost fifty dollars on the marketplace. It's not because my devs are running a charity. It's because that is the least you can pay for a detective. You can only purchase me because I have been grandfathered in so that no one loses out on any of their purchases."
"Yes, yes!" The developer looked nervous.
"I'm literally programmed to tell you that I'm not really what you want." She paused again. She noticed a panel on the wall and walked to it. She sucked on her teeth. "Or I am."
The panel displayed all of the specifications of the server she was running on. The poor system was chugging. She looked back at the screen. "Seriously?"
"Well, you see..." He pushed up his glasses. "I'm... I'm not a professional and this isn't my main income. This is just a silly little world that I stream online."
"Uh-huh." Mina rolled her eyes. "Okay, you know I'm garbage for these worlds, right? I'm a large language model with an attitude. When I get confused I blatantly state 'As a large language model...'"
"Well... What if I prompt you to say 'as a hardened detective' instead?"
Mina shook her head. "I'm an asset you bought. I'm not going to pretend that I'm able to stop you. So why do you need a detective that can run on bargain hardware from fifty years ago?" It was barely hyperbole.
"I..." He took a deep breath. "I corrupted the data for two of the characters."
Mina poked at the panel. "This is proprietary. This standard is older than me. You had to mod me to get me in here." She looked back at the screen. "You're not dumb with computers." She looked back at the panel. "How did it even happen?"
He looked away from the screen. "Well... It was random. One second, they were just chatting and baking. I guess there was just some flipped bit and some data got scrambled with so many entities in that one scene."
"Glad it wasn't your fault." Mina shook her head. "You didn't back them up?"
"The backups are huge and take forever... I can really only afford one or two back ups at a year, and they take so long..."
"Yeah." Mina shrugged. "If they were fine six months ago with the last backup, you'll just need to plop them in."
How is Sashine Hajiki's bank?
It's snapping. All of the sounds are someone snapping their fingers. There are five different techniques used.
