"Ugh!" Fred shouted out as he threw down his jacket next to the front door.

"Honey!" His mother rushed in. She was dressed up as the idea of a 60s housewife. "Did it go poorly?"

"It went how we said it would!" His father called out from the living room. His face was hidden by a newspaper.

"She was a snake." Fred pouted as he went to the kitchen. He opened the fridge and pulled out a carton of juice. "But not just because she was a liar." He closed the fridge door and grabbed a clean glass from the counter. "She wasn't even a person. She probably lays eggs."

"Honey..." His mother pouted as she rushed over to hug him. "What did you expect to happen when you fall in love with a prole?"

Fred shook his head. "She never begged me to get her placement here. I thought, if she's not using me to get on the Ark, it must be real. She would have been happy with me going to be a prole with her!" He balked. "Gross."

"And you were so mean to little Rachael!" His mother whimpered. "She was such a sweet girl and now she's with some shady character!" She shook her head. "You and Rachael would have had the cutest little babies. You could still have cute little babies as long as you never think about talking to another prole!"

"Can you just find me a girl and get me married?" He rolled his eyes.

"Oh joy!" She giggled as she pulled away from him and clapped her hands. "But you're a bit older. She would need to be a lovely woman, not a girl!"

His father stood with a groan and walked into the kitchen. He planted his hand on Fred's shoulder. "Now Freddy..." He cleared his throat. "You will not find the kind of woman you want without a job. Coming straight out of high school? You could have gotten a lovely lady like your mother without working a day in your life! But those lovely ladies already have beautiful babies. You are in a place where you need to find a strong woman who works just as hard as you do."

"I mean..." He looked away from his father. "I was willing to marry a prole. I would never expect a prole to be a lovely little housewife. I always imagined Fillie working..."

His father chuckled and patted Fred on the back. "I'm taking you into work tomorrow. Going to get you a job. Then you'll just have to work your charm and you'll have a wife in no time!"

"Grandbabies!" His mother's eyes were wide and her voice soft and hopeful as she drew out every syllable. "And we can set up a nursery so that I can babysit while you work!"

"Yeah." Fred finally poured juice from the carton he was holding into the glass that he was holding. "I'll have a lovely family. Never would have had that with Fillie."
