Axfc is a jerk. Here's my post on how to get downloads from there to work.

Multi-pitch CVVC banks do not work properly with the shareware A for automatic button!! Any articles where I complain about CVVC banks being broken is my own fault for not figuring it out sooner!!

Forgotten Friday #11 猫歌すすき / Nekoga Susuki

Who is Nekoga Susuki? How can I download 猫歌すすき? What is Susuki Nekoga?

Forgotten Friday #11 猫歌すすき / Nekoga Susuki

I've been saying it a lot lately, but my tastes are extremely subjective. What I adore in a bank is a fatal flaw to other users.

Today in "Mae's tastes are weird", we have an adorable UTAU that sounds like a perfect little angel singing through a little tin can. (Or, in other words, a really muffled bank.)

Who is Nekoga Susuki?

Official Art Packaged with Bank
Nekoga Susuki is the new name of an old UTAU. The original name was "猫歌スキ". The change was made because the original was too generic. Nekoga Suki was released all the way back in 2009.

The design is adorable. I love it very much. The style of the official concept art makes me feel really happy.

Nekoga Susuki was created by "エルケー" or "LK". Sadly, LK's twitter has been abandoned.

How are the banks?

I downloaded three of Nekoga Susuki's banks. Full packaged 3.6, 3 mora VCV, and 2.6 CV. I love them. An important note is that the ZIP file for Full Packaged 3.6 is corrupted. If you want to use every append to its fullest extent, you will need to download each append separately.

Both CV banks come packaged with the cute things that were used with that one LipSync program that was all the rage in the early, early days of UTAU.

CV 2.6

CV 2.6 is a three pitch CV bank with "multi-expression" vowels. (Did I use that word right? Those things you crossfade in for a different emotion.) Due to UTAU being wonky with prefixes and suffixes not in aliases and there being no prefix broker, getting this bank to properly use its prefixes to trigger the low pitches is really a hassle. And when I say hassle, I mean going in to the UST and typing "G3\" in front of every single note that you want to use the "G3\" prefix.

There is a bit of mechanical noise and I'm not the biggest fan of this particular bank.

VCV

Susuki's VCV bank is a simple, one pitch VCV. For some reason, it is a three mora bank. That means instead of recording "かきくけこ", she recorded "かけけ". It's really rare to see three mora, so I was shocked to see it used here.

The bank has a lot of mechanical whirring, and I don't know if it's possible to fix it without touching the audio files. However, I still adore how soft and lovely this bank sounds.

CV 3.6

This bank is the best. I usually stan VCV hard enough to choose it over a great CV bank, but this CV bank is a lot nicer to use. There is multipitch and there are appends. I didn't touch the "multi-expression" vowels that require using crossfade, but I did use every suffix in the following render.
As stated earlier, my belief is that the ZIP file for the full packaged version was corrupted at some point. To make that render, I had to replace some samples in each set with samples from other sets. this is fixable by downloading each individual append as opposed to just the full packaged version.

If you like CV and you like using appends to make the singing more realistic, this is the bank for you!

How can I download Susuki Nekoga?

All of the download links are on the distribution blog post. It may take a bit of clicking around and hovering over hyperlinks to see which take you to a voicebank download, but they're all there!

This UTAU has been forgotten to the sands of time by the Western fanbase. Hopefully, someone will find her and show her off. With such a cute voice and versatile CV bank, she deserves some love. 😃
