Whoo! Article number 200! I honestly didn't think I would get this far! The fanfic thing is what made it possible - I love writing so much. When my love for UTAU waned, I found something that could make my love for this blog stronger.

Last week, we found out Jennette's secret! This time on A Spectrum of Apple Skins, we learn who Cricket Huck is! I don't know if my implications were obvious.
"Cricket Huck Carl!" Jeanette bellowed out, standing in front of her family's farmhouse. "It's illegal to whoop your kids, but that didn't stop my momma!"
There was a clamoring inside and stomps down a frankly unsafe staircase until a scrawny and pale boy flew out of the door and in front of his mother. He was trying to pretend to be upset, but he knew what his mother meant when she said that. It was her code for 'I want to talk out in the woods without anyone following us.' Jeanette had never laid a hand on her children and had never threatened to until she and Cricket came up with the code word.
"Can you keep a secret?" Jeanette asked as she turned away from the farm house, her arms across her chest.
Cricket followed a few steps behind his mother. "I ain't really got no one to say it to."
"Do you wish you had someone to tell?" Jeanette's accent disappeared. She stopped and turned her head to the side, glancing at Cricket in her periphery. His eyes were wide as he stood frozen, but she couldn't figure out what the expression meant. Of course he was surprised - but she didn't know if he was delighted or in terror.
He looked down at the ground, blushing. He kicked at the ground before softly admitting, "I sneak into the library during lunch and watch the old episodes of Franz the Science Man. I know it ain't allowed in our house, but I like learning… but the stuff Pappy wants us to know is boring and I can never remember the dates."
"Oh," Jeanette covered her mouth with her hand as she looked forward. She was struggling not to laugh.
(Editor's note: this is not a reflection of actual people from Appalachia. This story is set roughly a thousand years in the future. Land that was abandoned during the "Civil War that Actually Worked" was reclaimed by very bad people who weren't even born there - at least two of them were literally born in Europe.)
She didn't love her husband in the slightest. He was a racist buffoon who would be entirely destroyed if he knew that his wife was making more money than him. But, every man in town saw her as untouchable after her time in the city. Finch was like H. P. Lovecraft in one way - even the people around him thought that he took his bigotry too far… and they were raised with bigotry as the norm. He was untouchable because he was genuinely unpleasant. Neither of them had other options beyond leaving, and Jeanette had tried that.
"How would you feel about being Franz the Science Man?" Jeanette asked casually as she began walking again.
Cricket started to do something that awkwardly resembled jogging to catch up with his mother. Her legs were much longer than she realized, so he usually had to try to jog to keep up.
"Of course," Jeanette gave a soft chuckle. She abruptly stopped in front of an old shack. She told all of the children that it was Mr. Jennings' shack and that anyone who touched it would end up on the wrong side if his rifle. Luckily for her, Mr. Jennings didn't exist. She opened the door and ushered Cricket in.
What is in the shack?! Jeanette really doesn't seem to like or respect her family with all of the lies she tells. Find out next time on A Spectrum of Apple Skins!
