Forgotten Friday #217 - 槙音ほのり / Makine Honori

Some happy nineteen year old woman likes ribbons and sheep. She likes to visit a sheep farm.

For a moment, Becky assumed she was thirteen and staying in the guest room at her grandparents' house. As she sat up and opened her eyes, she remembered that she was in some kind of video game.

She was confused. The last thing she remembered was sitting down in some kind of wild west… something. Now she was in some kind of medieval… something. She looked around the room. In the pale dawn light, everything looked… blue? Saturated grey? She noted that she didn't have to use the bathroom after at least two days in this world and that her blue jeans weren't saturated with sweat. She even smelled exactly the same as when she arrived.

Vanessa snapped her fingers so that Becky would look over at her. 

(note: when Becky and Vanessa are alone, Becky exclusively speaks while Vanessa signs.)

"Where are we?" Becky looked around the room. "This can't be the inn, right?"

"It is, but it makes even less sense." Vanessa silently laughed. "This is the second floor."

"But downstairs was a wood framed building, right? Wouldn't it get crushed by this masonry?" Becky glanced at the window. It was perfectly square with perfectly clear glass. 

There was a knock at the door. Becky called out, "We're decent!"

Jasper quickly opened the door and poked his head in. "Faulkner's going to show us how he got the money from the tavern! And then we'll eat!" He then bolted down the stairs in excitement.

Becky laughed softly as she stood. Vanessa followed her as they caught up to Jasper.

Faulkner was already sitting at a table when they entered the tavern. Other than the bar actually being a bar, it was nearly identical to the entrance of the inn.

"How'd ya do it, Faulkner?!" Jasper's eyes were wide as he smiled. "I figure you picked up something right heavy!"

A woman rushed to them. She was smiling brightly as she handed Faulkner a stack of papers. "I found it, just like you asked! My grandfather wrote this long ago. I haven't heard it in years…"

Faulkner took the sheets and made his way to the instrument in the corner. He organized the sheets above the strange keyboard and began playing while Jasper, Vanessa, and Becky took their seats.

Both Becky and Vanessa were struck by the noises coming from the instrument. None of the notes seemed to match any of the systems used on Earth, but it was somehow haunting instead of grating. The instrument itself somehow sounded like ten violins or cellos running the bow over one string at a time. 

Vanessa quietly snuck up to the instrument and leaned against the wooden upright frame as she watched Faulkner's hands. It looked like a piano until she saw the actual keyboard. Instead of keys, there were yellowed crescents that had the mechanics showing in the gaps between them. To play them, Faulkner rocked each crescent back and forth as if he were actually rocking a bow back and forth.

When he began singing, however, chills raced down her spine. Just as the 'game' refused to translate sign, the game also didn't translate music. His voice was smoother than when he was speaking English and completely unrecognizable as any language. She somewhat expected it to sound like Klingon or Norwegian… but it was just something else entirely. It was smooth, soft, and pleasant. Vanessa jumped slightly when she glanced back and saw Becky was behind her. Becky was just as captivated as she was.

How are Makine Honori's banks?

Many. Seven of them.

First, CV. It has two pitches. It's very cute. 

Next is her normal vcv. It is two pitches with edge vowels. It is nice.

Next is blackwool. It is a one pitch vcv with edge vowels. It is soft and cute, but there are issues with the default tools.

Next is pinkwool. One pitch vcv, edge vowels. Very high and youthful.

Then whitewool. One pitch vcv, edge vowels. It is high and cute, but very soft.

Falsetto is a one pitch vcv that is not meant to be used alone. It has some issues with the default tools, but is a nice falsetto voice.

Finally, there is the five pitch vcv aries. It also has edge vowels. It seems that falsetto and blackwool were reused. As such, this test will exclude the low and high range. It is very cute and strong.
