Gina was still afraid of Gem. John and Mary did not hold that against her at all. After John finished his office hours, he came back.
"So, talking with Gina gave me an idea!" John was smiling. "We want to keep Gem's existence a secret, but you know I'm anonymous on the forum and I can lie and say I got the file secondhand."
Mary nodded as they went up the stairs.
"And it could be any of them, you know?" John took a deep breath. "Music is pretty universal, right? Well, what if we have her sing? Not only would we be getting the linguistic information, but someone there has got to have connections with music people."
John went into the bedroom and sat down. He pulled up his phone with the characters for sing and song on it. Gem was confused as John switched to a sound recorder on his phone. He looked up and softly started singing an old Sesame Street song. He stopped and pointed at Gem.
Gem understood. She started singing. John and Mary were in shock. While her voice was beautiful, they expected some kind of traditional song that they had never heard anything like before. Instead, she was singing some kind of catchy pop song.
"Wow!" Mary clasped her hands together once Gem finished. John was quickly clipping out the parts they didn't need and uploading the audio to the forum.
Once John was done, he held up his phone for Gem with the characters for beautiful.
Gem was obviously happy. She paused. She held up her hand and mimed writing so that John would give her paper and a pen. Once she was given those, she wrote something using characters that meant want and listen. John noticed the tablet laying beside her, so he opened it up and found a music streaming app. Thankfully, Mary and Jim always forgot to cancel their subscriptions. He paused for a bit before typing C-Pop into the search bar and picking the first playlist.
Gem was extremely happy, so John and Mary left the room.
John looked down at his phone. He opened up a notification and gasped. His little clip was already trending off of the forum.
He opened up the post and saw the flurry of replies. One caught his eye.
"Before we throw doubt against our upstanding 'SweetHomeAlalanta', we need to look at how this piece falls into a wider puzzle. I feel it doesn't take a genius to realize that the phonemic inventory in this sample is identical to the phonemic inventories across all samples that we have heard. Pitch accents being absent from pop music is something that has been demonstrated repeatedly by pop music here on Earth."
John chuckled. He noticed the post was from an admin of the forum. That post scattered away all of the negative comments the moment it was posted. He was a bit worried about the file being shared, but that was kind of the point.
How Is SYD's bank?
Y'all put to much effort into joke banks sometimes. It's a very nice male presenting voice type bank that took care to make so nice.
