I wish there was more pretty snow outside.

So, FC2 is shutting down. Or well, FC2 shut down a long time ago. Without any reference, that may sound like it has nothing to do with anything… But it’s what the Visual Archive was hosted on. It hosted a lot of UTAU websites from the very beginning. Because the shutdown was announced, it means that people know so that they can go through and add it to the Way Back Machine. Or, even better, someone sent out an army of crawlers!
If things were different, I would be yelling to the sky over the injustice… But I’ve already lost access to the one thing I really cared about: the Visual Archive.
For some reason, a large chunk of FC2 became geolocked. Without a VPN, you couldn’t even view entire sites. The only reason I heard of why they would do that was something about adult content? But it could have been literally any reason.
The reason FC2 is going away for good now is supposedly because of low usage and aging servers. Which is like… Why not do what America does? Just sign up for AWS. That’s it - no servers needed, just paying some money to have it all on the cloud.
That costs money that FC2 isn’t bringing in. Everything that has been archived will still be archived as long as they don’t go and demand the Way Back Machine delete the history. It would seem pretty evil if they went out of their way to do that, whereas shutting down entirely feels logical but not great. But they lost my ability to use it at all when they geolocked content.
Anyway, if the Way Back Machine has archived the FC2 blog you care about, don’t worry. No one was hosting ZIPs of UTAU banks on the blog site. If the links are on the wayback machine, you can just do some copy and pasting to cut out the archive stuff and open them in a new tab. If the links are still up, nothing is lost.
However, if AXFC goes down? Aye, all of my comments will be responses of “I always deleted banks immediately after pressing publish. I’m sorry but I seriously do not have enough hard drive space to not do that.”
I’m not going to name check, but I think that there are some people (I love y’all) who will do their best to make sure that every historic UTAU will not be lost permanently if they haven’t been already.
So, in conclusion, this change will not make any major impact on me as I was already living with them making a major impact. There will be an impact on older UTAUs, but a lot of those had already been affected by link rot to begin with and the loss of their blogs likely wouldn’t rub more salt into that wound. I can’t warn you or ask you to do anything because you’re reading this like a year in the future, though.
How are Mitsu Ayane's banks?
Mitsu has two banks. Both are one pitch CV banks.
Act 1 has no hiragana aliases. Her voice is sweet and nostalgic.
Act 2 still has no hiragana aliases. Huh! She sounds clearer and still very cute.
Where can I download Ayane Mitsu?
You can find her on her wiki page.
