Wiki Wednesday #376 - KSV-01
KSV-01 is an experimental bank with no human recordings. Likely for this reason, they do not have much character information beyond the fact that they are devoid of gender.

If I can type fifty words in one minute, does that mean that I can type 500 words in ten minutes?
It’s a bit of a silly question to ask because the answer is obviously “humans aren’t computers”. Maybe when I’m not doing a typing test, I can type faster. Obviously, I can’t constantly type at fifty words per minute for ten minutes. I occasionally need to scratch my nose, for example.
My typing speeds are a perfect example of how I feel about my skills. I think my typing speeds are pretty okay. I was way faster when I actually used keyboards daily. But they were never like, pro levels. I think I’m decent at a lot of things - enough to say I’m not a beginner - but not actually reaching that pro level.
I’m not sure what’s up with that. If it’s a skill ceiling I have or if I just don’t work hard enough. With the ACT, it was definitely a skill ceiling. I practiced and practiced and I think I got a perfect score on two parts, a really good score on another, and then like a 25 on the Math section because of my dyscalculia. Which is actually a pretty decent score, but I was messed up over the fact that I got a 25 on the whole test in middle school. Like my Math score and my being in middle school score were the same.
I’m still salty over my AP tests senior year, though. I was in an intense depression and I actually just gave up and wrote huge on the literature test “I’m going to be a scientist!” or something. I still got a three on every test that year. I would have had so many college credits if I didn’t make the very silly choice of going to UCLA with no one willing to cosign loans with me.
But now I’m disabled and I have no hopes of college or jobs. Oh well. If I just focused on something, I’m sure I could get good at it. But I guess I just can’t focus on anything for long enough to actually do that. I do think my writing has gotten a lot better since I’ve been working on this blog. Thinking about the early stuff is pretty embarrassing. Just very silly and nonsensical while trying to shove in enough descriptive “look at me I’m a writer!” prose to justify the busted plotlines.
Given the word limits, I end up omitting a lot of flowery language. I could spend a thousand words painting a beautiful picture - I know I’ve got it in me! But it would be lame for my once weekly feature to spend two weeks talking about a flower swaying in the wind when I could do a whole comedy sketch instead.
The funny thing would be much, much more fun for everyone involved.
How are KSV-01's banks?
There is a one pitch CV and a one pitch CVVC bank.
This is the CV bank. I think this sounds the most like Klatt synthesis, but I couldn't find public information on that. Mildemelwe acknowledges that some of the consonants were incorrectly handled. However, the voice is cool!
The CVVC bank... Look, I'm pretty sure none of you are here for advanced analysis of phonetics! It is very nice.
Where can I download KSV-01?
The banks are on the wiki page!
