Wiki Wednesday #10 - Mak1 / mm0th's マキ
I did really consider not writing this article until after Mak1's CVVC was released. However, there is no telling when that will be and I can update the article afterwards. Besides, the download links will likely still be in the same place. But let me tell you, this CVVC is lit.
So, with the knowledge that a CVVC bank that is really good is in the works, let's talk about Mak1.
Who is Mak1?
Official Art Packaged with Bank |
Mak1 was originally just named Maki. The issue with that is that there are several Makis out there as it is a fairly common Japanese word that works as a name. Changing the name helps cut down on confusion.
Mak1 is non-binary, and Mak1 takes as long to write as "they", so I'll probably avoid pronouns completely. It's a little hard to figure out anything about who created Mak1. In the ACT 2 bank, the creator is listed as D1MTR1. However, in the LUCID bank, the creator is listed as mm0th. I'm not sure which is correct to use to talk about the creator of this bank, because while their SoundCloud username is mm0th, they have the name Dimitri written on their profile. Other than their SoundCloud and YouTube account with only one video, all accounts that I had found associated with mm0th were deactivated.
That takes you to the topic of "Does this creator not want me to use their UTAU?" Honestly, it is a tricky subject. Of course, mm0th has left up the UTAU wiki page and put a demo of an upcoming Mak1 bank on their SoundCloud. It feels like those two facts are permission to use this UTAU.
As far as Mak1's character, Mak1 is an android with two associated characters named Mak2 and Mak3. All three of them love furbies! There isn't any sign of Mak2 or Mak3 becoming UTAUs, and there's no notes on Mak1's page on how to genderbend the bank to get them.
How are the banks?
Mak1 has two banks available for download. Act 2 is a one pitch lite VCV whereas LUCID is a two pitch full VCV. Mak1 Act 2 and LUCID are very different banks. Act 2 sounds very cute, whereas LUCID sounds much more mature and has a lower range. However, of course, they aren't as cool as that CVVC up there! Still, they're good to use.How can I download Mak1?
All of Mak1's download links are on the UTAU wiki page. Lucid is a really solid VCV bank. Even if it's not as exciting as the CVVC teased up there, it's really worth using! Once the CVVC is out, I really hope more people use Mak1. 😄
