I kind of realized that today wasn't a speed-run kind of day. I was going to get bogged down in the fixing of OTO files, so I just went straight to writing for the chiquita with seven banks.
Forgotten Friday #124 - Monster Gire!のHUYA
HUYA had sisters, but then she got famous and got her own site.
A little annoying is the site is broken on mobile. If you don't switch to desktop view on my phone, the links to the pages just don't show up. It's just a few taps to switch, but wix shouldn't be doing me dirty like that.
For some reason, neither her new site nor her old site had her biography written in text that I could copy and paste without Google translate's read text feature. The Visual Archive seems to have scraped that information, and I am grateful for that.
BIG FAT EDIT BECAUSE I'M A DINGBAT:
There is no issue with her CVVC banks that cause the correct pitches to not be loaded. This is an issue with the Automatic button in Shareware UTAU. The automatic button cannot parse VC samples, so each sample after those is just ignored, meaning not even the prefix map works. To fix this, just turn off the automatic button and edit the "V" samples into "VV" samples by hand.
Who is Huya?

So, I think I remember definitely cheating when adding Huya to the spread sheet. But, there were so many one bank ponies that I felt like having an UTAU with several different banks to test would be nice and fun.
On a super fun note, I'm halfway done with the current batch of UTAU articles! I shot way lower as far as expectations of myself goes. Instead of a list of like a hundred, there's just like forty-five. Though, that wasn't fully my choice. It was because when I was binge downloading, free internet time ended and I was like, okay, I have what I have now.
I think that the internet had went out for like an hour and I was so annoyed that I didn't download as much as I had wanted. But, honestly? Batches of forty-five feels like a really good amount. It's the perfect amount where you get really bored when you're almost halfway done, but then you hit the halfway point and it's like, I can do this! Also, when I work really hard at it but still work easily enough to not become majorly burnt out, I can do five of these a day. That's nine days!
Anyway, back to the UTAU.
I don't really like the design. She has many different official outfits. And I love the outfits. I love her color scheme (I love purple), and I really love her hair style. Other than not being the biggest fan of her default outfit, I love everything about her other outfits except for one glaring issue.
Despite being an ordinary fourteen year old girl, she has a horn smack in the middle of her forehead.
The horn isn't the issue, though. The issue is that it is skin tone, with a bit of purple on the tip. If the horn was completely purple, I'd think it was pretty cool. If it was completely white, beige, brown, red… literally any other color than skin tone, it would be a cool and quirky way to make her design more unique. But skin tone?! It makes it look like a very peculiar tumor. That really unsettles my tummy.
Did you know that the narwhal's horn is a tooth? Did you know that cows, which are all female but I'm making a point to point out that they are females, can grow horns just like bulls? Recently, a cow escaped and ended up in my yard. I noticed that on both sides of her head, she had these curled horns that looked like smaller version of those spiral horns on the typical mountain goat. Those looked strange, because she was a cream colored cow and the horns were only slightly darker than her fur.
Anyway, Huya loves meat and potatoes. Not fancy Japanese potatoes - the boring ones that came from America. So many of the UTAUs I've covered recently just randomly like tomatoes. Tomatoes also came from America. Before Europeans found America, there were no tomatoes in Italy. Crazy, huh?
She hates かす汁, which is a soup made from sake lees. I had to do a lot of creative googling to figure out what that meant.
And it made me want to barf a little bit. Lees are the sediments left over from the fermentation process of alcohols. All the dead yeast and… sediments.
And, most importantly, despite her horn, she is a normal human.
How are Huya's banks?
There's seven, and they total to over 700 mb while zipped. Unzipped? 938 MB. Ayayay.
So, let's go in the order of her website.
初期単独音. AKA version 1.1 CV. It's a bit messy and inconsistent, but it's a version 1.1.
Next, 再録単独音. It basically means CV Act 2, as sairoku means rerecording.
Chiquita... no...
It's really up to your own preferences which CV bank you prefer. 1 sounds a bit more full, and 2 sounds a bit more bright.
11音階CVVC-立春-. The first day of Spring CVVC... and that eleven does, in fact, mean eleven pitches.
Basically, it's impossible to use every pitch. And, of course, there's no default with no alias.
no suffix means no play |
How do so many banks make this same mistake? Don't you just record the same list every time? And use the same base OTO with the same aliases?
Well, here's her entire range, missing notes that cannot coexist, but sped up so that it wasn't ten seconds long. It's okay, but excessive.
通常連続音-春-. Normal VCV Spring!
It is just a one pitch VCV bank. The OTOs are really bad in places, but the bank is stunningly beautiful.
弱連続音-春時雨-. Weak VCV: Springtime Rain.
Another one pitch VCV. There are errors in recording that need to be patched using the "- CV" samples, but at least they're already OTO'd as CV. It's still really, really pretty.
3音階連続音-春風-. Three pitch Spring Breeze. I was really lucky and all of the pitches fit into the tester UST I had open!
It's okay.
Finally, 4音階連続音-春嵐-. Four pitch Spring Breeze.
It's really yelly and I'm not the biggest fan. But other people really like yelly banks.
Where can I download Huya?
Here is her website. I feel like many, many people will love HUYA, even if she wasn't my biggest cup of tea.
