Forgotten Friday #168 - ぬこ山のすず子 / Mt. Nuko's Suzuko

 Okay so like, rendaku rules, a lot of sushi isn't actually... like okay, Rendaku is this thing where " gets added to kana that come after ... I'm not sure the entire rule, sometimes it feels random. But like, maki sushi is makizushi. I thought "What if the kanji is using the on'yomi and not the kun'yomi?" Then she'd be Suzushi, and she would be sushi made of Sue. I don't know my brain at the moment. The kanji would mean she wasn't sushi, but puns? But it's the reading "ko". 

Forgotten Friday #168 - ぬこ山のすず子 / Mt. Nuko's Suzuko

Suzuko is twenty-one years old, despite looking younger. She's apparently a big jerk.

Previously on A Spectrum of Apple Skins, Apple Bloom saw her new home and did not like it. What will she think of phones?!

"Well," Apple Bloom sighed. "Is that it? I mean, I'm a little scared."

"Oh, no," Emily smiled softly as she walked to the thermostat and set it to a reasonable temperature. "This is the thermostat. If it's too cold, press the button that points at the ceiling. If it's too hot, press the button that points at the floor. Don't worry too much about energy usage. It's not worth it to be cold in your own home. It's the middle of Summer right now, so you'll never really need to turn on the air conditioner…" She paused, remembering that Apple Bloom seemed to understand nothing. "That makes the air cold, and you don't need that."

"I appreciate when you explain things in a way I can understand," Apple Bloom sighed with relief. "You're the best a pony could ask for!"

"Awh!" Emily laughed as she walked back to Apple Bloom. "Now, before we get to something you definitely won't understand, would you like me to explain some stuff that you might already know?" 

Apple Bloom nodded rapidly. She needed a small win.

"Let's go to the kitchen, then!" Emily laughed softly as they made their way to the kitchen. The loft was vast to the point of being ridiculous. It was the square footage of an actual house, but without walls to make it look like a house. Emily pointed at the refrigerator. "This is the refrigerator. It keeps food cold. If you leave the door open, it will beep at you to close it. It's French door, meaning that one side is the freezer. It keeps things frozen. It doesn't have an ice or water dispenser." She opened the freezer and pulled out a full ice tray. "You make ice by filling this with water and freezing it." She put back the ice tray and closed the freezer door before she opened the fridge door. "We stocked this with life sustaining drink and bottled waters for if you can't handle the tap water. I can handle it, but New York transplants will throw something at you if you imply that they should drink it." She expected Apple Bloom wouldn't know how to use a bottle, so she pulled out a white bottle with small black lettering on it and handed it to Apple Bloom. "Grab the top and twist it! That will open it. If you're unable to open it, I can get you some tools for people with limited use of their hands."

Apple Bloom nodded as she twisted the top off of the drink and took a large sip. Her eyes widened and she swallowed. There was a giant grin on her face when she announced, "It tastes like alfalfa!"

Emily laughed, "Yeah! If you buy private, you can get life sustaining drink that tastes good. But the government only supplies the allergen free version that tastes like hay." She pointed at the oven and the microwave that was mounted above it. "Those warm up your food, but it would be smart to not touch them for now. You could start a fire." She pointed at the sink and asked, "Do you know how sinks work?"

Apple Bloom nodded as Emily guided her to a set of two doors. One was a French style sliding door, and the other was a normal door. Emily slid the French door open and gestured at a clothes rack, already filled with business casual outfits. "This is your closet. You put clothes here." She opened the other door and led Apple Bloom into a bathroom. "You surely know how toilets work, but showers are always confusing."

Apple Bloom nodded again as Emily bent over the side of the shower tub combo before twisting the knob of the shower. "Turn it towards the red side for hot water, and the blue side for cold water." The shower began to steam up the room. "Be careful. The water heater is way too strong. See that steam? It could burn you if you turn the knob all the way to the end of the red." She turned off the shower and smiled. "Think you got it?"

Apple Bloom nodded excitedly until she turned around and saw a mirror…

How are Suzuko's banks?

Like her site-mate, Dr. Leanne, Suzuko has a CV bank and a VCV bank. Both are called fluffy! They both have extra features like rolled Rs and edge vowels. 

Her VCV is absolutely lovely. While it isn't a muffle voice, it is a young voice that is tempered as to not be shrill without being muddied.

Now, how is the CV? The OTOs have some mistakes, but aren't too bad at all! She sounds great, but it feels a little less unique than the VCV. It feels generic, but it's a really good kind where you could just use her wherever.
