Yuna is an Undine. This is something like a mermaid. She is a sixteen year old girl from Malaysia.

Aruan pitied Euaen. She thought that maybe he was taking her pity to be something more. Either way, she wasn't leaving the house anymore. She didn't want to risk getting pregnant and him falling in love with the baby.

She had been playfully helping him study English. But he was starting to understand the limitations. 

"How do you get your prosthetic?" He leaned forward as they sat at the little table in the dining nook.

"3D printing." She shrugged. "I still have contact with the designer. Sometimes we test out modifications for the fun of it. I test fit them in plastic before I accidentally waste the money on metal if it's not a good fit."

"Could you..." He looked so sad as he tried to ask.

She patted him on the shoulder. "You would literally suffocate." When she saw his confusion, she clarified. "When I was born, my tongue was too small. Even if I hadn't had surgery, my tongue would basically be the same size as a Founder Species tongue. If you tried to put in one of my prosthetics, it would push your tongue back into your throat."

"How did your surgery work?" He leaned back a bit. 

"It was actually pretty easy all things considered." She shrugged. "They just cut the bottom of my tongue and stitched it up. If you wanted the surgery, it would be pretty risky. They would basically need to cut off half of your tongue."

He looked away from her. 

"But, you know, if you could smuggle me to a Union ship, I could get you the surgery basically within the day." She pulled her hand away. "But you would never be able to speak Aaiuu again. Without a prosthetic in, you could never say half of the vowels. With it out, you could never say the other half. It's game over for any kind of life here."

He shook his head. "How would I even start to smuggle you off of this planet?"

She shrugged. "Crime? I'm pretty sure they haven't totally torched your legal stuff." She paused. "You're still a Sterile. You have more power here than I ever did."

"I can't ask you what it's like out there." He looked back at her. "You've never been out there."

"It would be better than here." She sighed. "If I were out there, I would be just like Ouura Luna. I'd be so pretty, I'd be fighting off Union guys with a stick."

"Maybe I want to do crime..." He mused. "This animal life is misery, Aruan."

"Yeah." She nodded. "Living in the hospital was better than this. How bad does it have to be that the hospital is better?"

"If I do smuggle you out..." He paused. "Does that make us... Like... Married?"

She laughed. "Honey! Are you afraid I would ditch you at the first chance? No, you're the one who will want to ditch me."

He nervously laughed. Maybe. Maybe he could get them away from all of it.
