Forgotten Friday #54 - ReVoiceLoids's 夢幻 / Mugen
Yay! For the first time in a while, Forgotten Friday has caught up to and overtaken Wiki Wednesday. I really struggled writing these for a bit because I kept turning up UTAUs that had one poorly recorded CV bank and almost no backstory. I can pad articles with random facts about fava beans if the UTAU's backstory says anything about fava beans. But if the entire character information is "n/a", what am I supposed to talk about? How it was funny that Ed Begley Jr. has played doctors and professors, but his character thought anonymous was spelled "Any Mouse" in a different show? (It was funny. He thought that the phrase "Any Mouse" meant that it wasn't him.)
Anyway, this is one of the UTAUs I wouldn't need to pad anything out for. I wasted that anecdote on Ed Begley Jr. for nothing!
Who is Mugen?

I feel so useful! I was so confused because last time I was binge downloading UTAUs, I really, really wanted to do an Investigation on ReVoiceLoids. (That was so long ago!) But, the only website I could find was via the Wayback Machine, and that was missing most of the information. All the download pages went "poof!"
So, as proof that this article isn't illegal, and that I was useful for once, here is the edit from 2019 fixing the website link:
At a later date (when I am awake after 2AM), I will search through and find every ReVoiceLoids that qualifies for either Forgotten Friday or Wiki Wednesday and add them to my list. For that reason, I'll be quick. More details might come up in later articles.
Every ReVoiceLoid is part of an extended universe where every action by one ReVoiceLoid affects another. To truly understand Mugen, you need to understand Deon. Also, his biological mother is Aline Enbukyoku, but his gestational mother was a laboratory, because he's a clone. His growth was stunted so that he would never mature past the age of 14, and he is immortal until his purpose is fulfilled. Really, it's a ride to piece together information on him. Also, he really, really dislikes Donka Fjord.
How is Mugen's bank?
Kana encoded! I can't believe it, but kana encoded! OTOs are typical "It's 2010, what do you expect?" For most samples, the consonants are completely cut off in the OTOs. When I first played through the sample, my thought was "eh, 2010 young male voice possibly recorded by someone who identified as a woman." But after I fixed some of the OTOs, my reaction was "This is a cinnamon bun and I need to protect them." Of course, given the fact that Mugen is an artificial, immortal superhuman, he'd likely be the one protecting me.
The voice is very 2010. The quality is 2010. The pronunciation is 2010. This bank makes me so extremely happy, and I'm very grateful that the link and bank were left up for download. I know that you can find this vibe elsewhere, but every little piece of history we can preserve is good for the fandom.
Where can I download Mugen?
As I said earlier, Mugen can only be found (as far as I know) on the UTAU Wikia. This is one of those voices that when people like, they collect. I can see Mugen being used in a lot of future projects from people who collect these kinds of voices. It helps that the design is adorable. I don't know how I got this far without pointing out that the design is adorable. There's a lot of reasons that Mugen could be used in either 2010 or 2020.
One could say that at one point in Aline's life, she felt so lonely and disappointed in humanity, she downright cloned herself two children. One of them was a polite, kind-hearted young man. The other was a gremlin just like her.
ReplyDeleteMugen takes after his biological mom quite nicely, doesn't he? 😂
