Axfc is a jerk. Here's my post on how to get downloads from there to work.

Multi-pitch CVVC banks do not work properly with the shareware A for automatic button!! Any articles where I complain about CVVC banks being broken is my own fault for not figuring it out sooner!!

Forgotten Friday #56 - 紫音メキ / Shine Meki

I can't find the name written in kana anywhere, so I'm just going with what Google Translate told me was correct. Jisho says that it probably should be Shion, but Shine is infinitely more UTAU.

Update, 20200124! I had used the wrong video. The correction has been made. I feel really awkward linking directly to the download site, especially when it is something like uploader.jp that lists everything available for download. But if the video goes down and the banks are still up, the getuploader is erisofmeki.

Forgotten Friday #56 - 紫音メキ / Shine Meki

Last week, I was all complaints about a random one shot UTAU with little to no information about the voice provider. Now, I'm just excited to bite into a very unknown UTAU! This UTAU is the male counterpart to 紫音エリス. They have the same voice provider, and I can't find much on her. Apparently, the voice provider was an actual, literal elementary school child. That's really cool!

With that being said, let's jump in!

 Who is Meki Shine?

Official Icon Packaged with Bank
Look guys! Copics! It could be an off brand, but I don't know if regular old software could get this level of realism in 2010. Almost no one uses actual, physical art that they scan into their computer as icons anymore. It's all digital.

I think a running joke I'll develop is just pointing out when it looks like art was made with alcohol markers. Sharpies are also alcohol based markers, but it's rare to find someone making legit art with them. In Googling to make sure I wasn't spreading a lie, I found a cute DIY you can use Sharpies and alcohol for.

Anyway, there's no real information on this UTAU at all. No age, no weight, no height, no likes. Just that it exists. I know I complained about that, but it's worth it. If the readme is to be believed, this is an actual child recording. Parents or big siblings getting their kids or little siblings to record is just so fun and adorable! The results may not be great, but fun was had.

How are Shine Meki's banks?

Shine Meki has two banks. Shine Meki and Meki (Vowels). I'm not sure why the named the second bank vowels, because it's a full bank.

Regardless, let's take a look at the first bank.

The first bank is a two pitch CV with no OTO file. Some of the higher pitch are missing, like "ぼ↑". It just doesn't exist. Looking closer, it seems like a lot doesn't exist. It's a kid recording this, and they're forcing a boy voice. I don't blame them for missing a few things. The issue comes from plenty of consonants just being straight up cut out. The end result is kind of sad and not very nice at all. But it's really sad because the voice sounds so sweet and perfect when it works correctly!

Meki (Vowels) doesn't play like it's a two pitch. The vowels have a second pitch, and that's it. It's nice to just know the limits from the get-go!

Meki (Vowels) has horrifically bad OTOs with a lot of them being completely covered in blue. The original bank had no OTOs, and I prefer that because using no OTOs will not crash UTAU. I ran it through SetParam quickly to get OTOs what were still bad, but wouldn't crash UTAU.

Meki (Vowels) is much, much better than the previous bank. But, it still has problems with cut consonants. I sent a DM to Rev to see if he'd be interested in restoring Meki. No idea what he'll say, but it was worth a shot.

Where can I download Meki Shine?

Meki's distribution link is on his distribution video. This voice is just so perfect, but recording errors keep it from being readily usable. As I said earlier, I did reach out to someone who restores banks. Flack from the fandom may have made him quit his efforts.

I really do love this bank's voice, but there's basically no chance in heck that the voice provider could replicate these results exactly after about ten years of time passing. If you're up for a challenge, this could be a lot of fun as a puzzle. Not so fun as a plug and play UTAU, perhaps.
