Wiki Wednesday #218 - Yuki Shizuka / 静か雪

I'll explain right quick - I learned recently that it's not a huge deal for me to do the writing on my phone. As long as I have the HTML code to embed the audio, the only thing I need to do on my computer is render the audio and upload it to my drive... Which I already use to store the audio.

The thing was that when I had garbage internet, I had to have a hoard of banks so that I didn't run out the data cap. Now that I have great Internet... I literally can set up and do this on any PC I can install UTAU onto. So I am using my very garbage, pretty old mini PC in the living room! It's a nightmare to use because it's not good, but like I said, I only need it for a very small part of the process! Also, I really like being out here in the living room. That said...

I kicked my feet back and forth as I sat on the exam table. George couldn't handle the idea of me having surgery, so I went to all of the consults on my own.

Do I want to be Aaiiu? You know I've had the surgery already, so of course you know I don't want to be. It's a culture that rejected me and a language I speak on a kindergartner level. I wanted to be able to kiss my partner and speak in English. Only one of those things ended up happening, but that's not entirely relevant.

The surgeon walked in. He was shell shocked. 

"I would like you to thank your mother for me." He nervously adjusted his tie. "She was immensely helpful… though perhaps the trip to the morgue was excessive."

He leaned against the counter and just studied me. I was in baggy pajamas and my hair was pulled into a messy bun. My mask looked silly because it had a speaker in the center of it so that the sound my phone made while reading my text to speech would come from my face. That made it easier to have conversations. I had it made with George's family's money after many awkward appointments on their home planet.

"I don't want to do this to you." He crossed his arms. But then he lowered them to his side. "But I do not want anyone else to do this to you."

He rambled on. I slowly nodded along. He talked about how so many people were willing to destroy function for the sole purpose of a slightly better form. Replace functional hooves for paralyzed hands. Destroy eyes in trying to make them the right color. He paused. "What do you want from this? How 'human' do you want to be?"

I looked down at my phone. I didn't expect that question.

"I'll tell you what I'm willing to do, Beatrice."

I cringed. It felt weird being called by my new name. I loved being Beaky, but that wasn't good enough for the in laws. They thought Ouura was too 'alien'. So, out of whole cloth came Beatrice. 

"To clarify, you're functionally asexual?"

I laughed. He smiled. "The issue is the acid. There's no way for me to ethically do anything about the acid. In the same vein, I cannot do anything about your stomach. You will still need to puree the food in your mouth."

I nodded again. I didn't really have a stomach. All of my mucous membranes, aside from my eyes, produced acid. Since there was no need for an extra step in which food sits in acid, there just… wasn't one. 

"I will only operate on your face." He stepped away from the counter. "I pray that you will never let anyone operate on your body. About your face…" 

He stepped closer and studied my eyes. "I'm willing to take the risk on your eyes. It will more or less just be organic contact lenses, though they will cover what should be sclera with the iris and pupil unimpeded." 

"Maybe the morgue trip was worth it?"

He laughed. He sighed. I took the cue to pull off my mask. He winced. I never really said it, but my mouth smells bad. It still does. It's literally filled with stomach acid. You get used to it rather quickly, but taking off my mask was something else. All of that sour smell was pent up and then let into the world.

Time to jump on the mini PC! It is pain because it is so slow, but hey, I'm enjoying the sunlight from the windows.

It looks like there's a Mac version and a Windows version of her bank. I don't know what that means at all. The Macosx folder seems to have no size, despite looking like it has the entire bank... Just with periods at the start of the file names.

The OTO file needs a bit of work and plosives tend to be clipped. However, the voice is very lovely! It is warm and feminine.
