"Oh." McKenzie looked down at her hand. "That's not fire."

"You're strong!" Aliyah laughed. "You're confused, obviously, but you're strong!"

"But it's..."

"It's a bunny hat! Not a good one, but it's most of a bunny hat!" Aliyah tried to calm herself down. "And that's with just that tiny bit of exposed skin! If you struggle through learning magic with that limitation..."

"Aliyah," McKenzie turned to look at her, "Did you have this problem?"

"Oh, no." Aliyah shook her head. "My portals are on my wrists. Magic usually just goes through skin, but your skin is your portal."

"I don't want to wear short sleeves..." McKenzie pouted.

"Oh!" Aliyah covered her mouth before turning and typing on her computer's keyboard. After a bit of reading, she pumped her fist again. "Unless the clothing is made to block magic, you can be wrapped up from head to toe and it still work!"

"Really..." McKenzie smiled widely.

"I want to risk it!" Aliyah handed McKenzie her ring. "With your left hand, hold the ring to the base of your throat. Hold out your right hand like this..." She held out her own hand. McKenzie mirrored her incorrectly, but she continued. "Then, just look at this." Without moving her hand, a small ball of mint colored fire appeared above her hand.

McKenzie nodded and stared at the fire. One of her problems, though, that was her mind wandered. She stared at the fire, but didn't think about making it herself. She thought about how it looked nothing like actual fires she had seen.

Aliyah's smile started to fade a bit. "Now, steady yourself and try to pull the magic in..."

McKenzie did that she did for Mrs. Mossgarten. She thought very magical thoughts while staring at the fire, but it didn't look like fire - she couldn't get over that. It was light, colorful, and almost spherical.

Aliyah slowly nodded. Something should have happened. "I guess... Let it go!"

McKenzie closed her eyes as pink smoke began to leak from her hand holding the ring to her neck.

"Oh no..." Aliyah gasped. She realized that McKenzie wasn't moving her hand, so she grabbed McKenzie's wrist and jerked it away from her throat.

McKenzie opened her eyes and looked up at Aliyah. "Did I do something wrong?"

"I'm so sorry!" Aliyah was nearly sobbing. "It's just that you were..." There was no excess heat coming from McKenzie's hand. She let go and stared at her hand. The ring hadn't gone clattering on the floor because her entire hand was encased in light blue cotton candy.

"How..." Aliyah staggered back. "Wow. Wow. Oh... Okay, wow!" She sat down at her computer again. "Do you need to learn a different language? Do you need to..." She turned back to McKenzie. "You are very special, and you are very powerful. I'm happy I'm here to be your Beezus... Does the cotton candy taste good?"

McKenzie tried a bite. She smiled and nodded.
