A New Vampire, part 6

Rosie and Wilbur were quietly reassuring us all that we would be at the shelter soon once the sun started to rise. It took everything in me to not just stare at the sky.

I didn't remember much, just flashes of mundane things. The sunrise was never this beautiful, even if the light was starting to hurt my head.

"Finally!" Rosie clapped her hands as she called out. She knelt down and threw open a wooden hatch on the ground. It revealed a hole with a ladder. Without any questions, we all followed her down into the opening.

Once we were all inside, Wilbur pulled down a string that closed the hatch.

It was a cellar. Or at least, I think that's what it would be called. The walls looked like they were made from dirt and the floor was obviously just dirt.

There were no lights, but we could all see from just the light filtering through the cracks in the wooden door above us.

"You know the rules." Reese sighed as she reached into her backpack. "Just one tablet unless you're injured."

She went between each of us, putting one white tablet into each of our hands. It wasn't small - it was rather large.

She looked back at me once she had distributed them. "Just chew it up and swallow it."

I slowly nodded and ate the tablet.

Rosie started to explain. "We don't want to drink blood. It's messy and takes away resources from hospitals in need." She awkwardly let out an uncomfortable laugh. "Or, you know, hurts people."

Wilbur took over. "So, we work with the Fae to create a tablet to take care of all of that. It's some magical mumbo-jumbo, really. We can't just drink animal blood because animal blood doesn't have..." He looked so frustrated as he tried to think of the words. He snapped his fingers as he smiled. "It has no essence of soul."

"So, this has no blood." Rosie nodded. "Just the essence of human soul to keep us going."

I liked that explanation... But I was confused. "Don't you get hungry if all you have is tablets?"

"It's hard to explain." Reese sighed. "Sometimes I see food and I have to eat it to feel emotionally okay..." She shrugged. "But our stomachs don't digest anything. They can absorb small things or liquid, but too much food and we get sick."

"I don't eat." Wilbur shrugged. "But I will go to the coffee shop and get their most sugary chocolate drink possible every day I'm back in America."

Rosie let out a soft laugh. "And I just take my tablets. Food makes some of us happy... But we don't need it. It's like recreational drugs - it's bad for us at worst and pointless for us at best, but it makes some of us happy."

I nodded. The tablet didn't have much taste other than sugar. I felt a little stronger, but nothing really else.

How are Toka Aki's banks?

So, I don't know if I never saved it or if it's lost, but I can't find the textgrid I used for my one Finnish tester ust. But, I still have the ust! So let's start with Finnish CVVC. The voice is great!

Next, Finnish VCV. This bank is very beautiful!

Okay So, I have no Russian testers because I haven't made a Russian list yet. But I still want to use all of the banks! I have no idea how Russian phonemes work and w isn't w? But I tried to use an English UST. The voice is nice!

Let's do Arpasing next! I swore I wouldn't make more usts this time, but whoops. The voice is so fun!

Now, we just have Japanese banks!

Facula is a four pitch CV bank. The voice is absolutely wonderful!

Stella is a one pitch CV bank. The voice is so pretty!

Next is CVVC Nebula. It is only one pitch. It's funny, the last time I picked this tester ust, it was also a whisper bank! Whisper banks can be hard to use, but this one has very little static.

Next Is the Stella VCV. It has three pitches. The voice is very pretty!

Finally, there is Supernova VCV. It has three pitches. The voice is absolutely lovely!
