A New Vampire, part 7

We were all covered in dirt and leaves when we reached the train station. There was no building - just a platform and train tracks surrounded by fences.

As we got closer to the platform, I saw more vampires glowing in the early morning dawn.

"It's late, Rosie!" A large man called out from the platform. "Any later and we'll all be fried!"

"Glad it didn't leave without me!" Rosie called back.

I realized my hands were on my ears and my head felt like it was splitting in two. Had we been whispering the entire time?!

Wilbur patted my shoulder. "Sorry about that. It's going to be torture when the train rolls up."

I couldn't help but look annoyed as I looked back at him. Maybe I should have guessed that my hearing would be as good as my sight... I just didn't realize that the very polite vampires only whispered to each other.

Reese tutted as she rifled through her bag. She handed my a pair of ear plugs. "They don't do much, but it's better than nothing."

I took the foam lumps and put them into my ears. She was right. They did almost nothing.

I looked over to Reese. "Why have only three of you told me your names?"

Reese looked puzzled, then laughed. "Shell shock. They're nicer people in general, it's just that they've been through nasty trauma that they need to process. They're on autopilot until we get home."

"What makes you guys so special?"

She hummed for a moment. "Rosie and I are doing logistics down in the basement. We hear about the trauma, but don't see it directly." She gestured at Wilbur. He had made his way to the platform and was visibly joking around with the other vampires. "He's just built differently. I don't think I've ever seen him upset. He literally turned you into a vampire and was just fine immediately after."

I looked towards him. "Is that usually not a thing that you can walk away from fine?"

Reese shook her head. "It's traumatic for everyone involved. Except for him. He's just fine."

The ground began to shake as there was a horrible noise.

...

I realized I had blacked out when I was suddenly in a pitch black room. It was shaking and there was still a horrible noise, but it was better.

"Sorry about that."

I couldn't see anyone, but I knew that the voice was Wilbur. Suddenly, the room was filled with just enough light to see him and Rosie sitting across from me.

Reese gently placed her hand on mine. "It's pretty rare for that to happen. We gave you another tablet once we got you on the train "

I looked around. We were sitting together on a train with fabric draped around to block light.

"The pitch black was from going through a tunnel." Wilbur explained. "Usually, the light blocking isn't that good."

"I see." I nodded.

How Is Salvador's bank?

Only the CVVC is advertised as being a current bank. The previous are deprecated, so let's ignore them so we only see the best of SALVADOR!
