I have a love-hate relationship with apples. When it's a good apple, it's basically one of the best things on Earth! When it's a bad apple, I feel personally offended.
Back in the day, there were these little snack packs you could get. It was green apple slices, caramel, and peanuts. I loved those things so much!
I tried to get healthier, so that meant no more caramel. I eventually just started taking whole apples to school. Every few years, it would be a similar cycle. I remember I love apples, so I start eating apples. The apples go out of season and they taste and feel like paper towels. I learn that I actually hate apples. I have no conception of time, so I couldn't actually remember to start eating them when they were meant to be good again.
Everyone hates on Red Delicious. I spent years thinking I only liked green apples because of that nonsense. It turns out, there are varieties like honey crisp that blow all green apples out of the water! That is, until they go out of season and they become offensive.
One of the things I couldn't stand was when we would get baked cinnamon apples as part of our lunch back in elementary school. I don't know exactly what it was about it, but it was like those apples had some moral failing that I would not let go. No idea what it was. I would love some baked apples with cinnamon right now!
It's extra funny that I just don't know what the deal was because I loved the McDonald's apple pies. I loved the Taco Bell apple empanadas. But I hated when people bought the apple toaster strudels instead of the cherry ones. I'm starting to think I've always had really weird food problems.
My favorite dish with apples was definitely my grandma's chicken salad. It was canned chicken, some kind of sauce, and chopped celery and apples. It was so insanely good! The apples pieces were small enough that the texture didn't bother me and the taste was able to shine through, even out of season.
I wish I could make some of that right now! I'm pretty sure canned chicken is zero points... But I am sadly vegan.
One weird quirk I've acquired is that I'm afraid of biting into apples. My teeth are pretty healthy and strong, but I'm afraid all of my teeth will get stuck in the apple and I'll lose them all! That won't happen, but that's the thing about irrational fears. Why bother worrying about things that will never happen when you can prevent them from happening by just slicing the apple beforehand?!
Maybe someday I'll be brave and try getting some fresh apples from the store again. It would be nice to have them to eat if they tasted good! If I don't ever bother trying again, though, I don't think I'd be too sad about it.

The voice is very robotic and the consonants are so small, it sounds like they aren't there!
