Yukina is a thirteen year old girl. She loves eating but she hates spicy foods.

No one liked Heath.

They played along at first. But then they started to realize what exactly he represented. If he directly asked for an action to be carried out, they did it. But they made him wait.

He was sitting at the desk in his little office while Aruan was sitting on a chair. A metal feeding tube was placed in her mouth. He didn't know how to make her actually drink anything so that was the only thing he could think of when no one was really willing to brainstorm with him. 

He had no way of reading her expression. He could only imagine that the fact that she was kicking her legs back and forth meant that she was at least content.

He could translate his speech so that she could understand... But he had no way of understanding her. Maybe if a kind nurse could step in and tell him what she probably meant, things could be different. But no one liked him. 

She couldn't speak her own language. No one ever bothered to try and find a way to allow her to communicate.

He could try. He turned on the translator. "Aruan. If you understand me, can you raise one hand?"

She turned to him and raised her hand. 

He smiled. "I'm going to ask your permission for something."

She looked confused.

"I want to help you be able to eat." He still smiled. "But... The device that will help you might be uncomfortable."

She was even more confused. She understood the words the translator was saying but she didn't follow the concept. 

There was a knock on the door. Before he could call out, the door opened. The nurse marched to his desk and placed down a box. She then placed a pair of gloves on top. "Be careful. We'll bill the Union if we have to treat acid burns."

Before he could say anything, the nurse was stomping out of the room. 

He sighed and put on the gloves. He opened the box and pulled out a metal contraption. "If it's okay with you, I'll put this in your mouth. Then you should be able to eat! Hold up your hand if that's okay."

Aruan instinctively shrunk back. It looked terrifying to her. It was real molded plates of metal held together with metal pegs. But she was raised that there was no choice. Children do what they are told. So she held up her hand and tilted her head.

It was uncomfortable... But it was in. It felt bad and wrong in her mouth.

"Now..." Heath went back to his desk and grabbed a piece of chocolate candy. "This will melt if you accidentally swallow it... So it's safe to try eating this right now!"

Chocolate was the most annoying symbol of the Union. The one thing the Founder Species swore would convert anyone to their side. 

Aruan took the candy and nervously placed it in her mouth. She was suddenly on their side.
