Forgotten Friday #392 - オルガンネ雪 / Oruganne Yuki

 I'm glad I remembered that I can just edit wiki pages. The download link on the wiki page was broken and there were possibly illegal ads on the official site (not the voice provider's fault - it's an fc2 thing) so I just replaced the link on the wiki with the one from the official site!

Forgotten Friday #392 - オルガンネ雪 / Oruganne Yuki

Becca had watched people play farming games. That was what had inspired her to move to an Ag Ark. But the games lied. The work couldn't just be install sprinklers and harvest every few days. It was constant weeding and tilling. She understood why crop rotation was important... But she didn't understand why it had to be such a difficult concept. 

Maybe she could have handled it better if it weren't for the cows and the fowl she agreed to take care of. Feeding and watering them... At least she didn't have to build fences. Bin told her that if she did a good job with the cows, they would raise her a barn.

Bin had stopped cooking breakfast for Becca and Becca couldn't figure it out. She ate but she was miserable with what she was eating. Actually, she was miserable when Bin was cooking also. 

"Hey there!" Bin bustled her way in. She let out a soft "oh" when she saw Becca's face pressed against the kitchen table.

Becca slowly turned her head to look at Bin. "I was a big stupid dummy, Bin."

"Well..." Bin awkwardly laughed. "Mrs. Waller broke her shoulder something bad. She could do some weeding and harvesting, but she can't muck her stables."

Why did farming games never include mucking stables? Becca slowly stood up. "So because we're all family here, we can just switch jobs around?"

Bin nodded. "You're a lovely woman, but you're larger and stronger than half of our men. You know, maybe raising crops is a waste of your talents."

Becca finally felt some kind of hope. "I can't handle the mental load. I can't handle always needing to think about if something is a weed or if it's part of the plant. But if someone can just point at a task and tell me to do it? No thinking? I bet I can do it."

Bin softly clapped her hands. "I hope that is the case, Becca! You know, we need more people like you."

"Because I wouldn't be affected by a virus that completely wiped your people out?" Becca tried to laugh. 

Bin looked embarrassed for a second before realizing that it wasn't some secret. "Yes, yes." Bin shook her head. "Imagine if there was no one doing this work. Everyone would just be eating seaweed!"

"Why would there be seaweed?" Becca was a bit confused.

"You didn't know that every colony ship has an aquarium to help with climate regulation?" Bin looked a bit concerned. 

"Oh... Right... The tanks with green stuff with no fish." Becca shook her head. "No fish to eat, just seaweed. I don't like the thought of that."

"No one does, so we need to make sure that never happens." Bin led Becca out of the little farm house and gestured at a small vehicle that was like a golf cart. "It's a long way to the Waller Farm, so I've got us a way to get there in style!"
