"You don't have holidays on the colony ships?" Wells was visibly shocked as she handed Becca a heavy coat.

Becca didn't understand why she needed the coat but she still put it on. "If every culture celebrated every holiday, every day would be a holiday. So we just gave up on all of them I guess."

Wells opened a door and ushered Becca in. 

As soon as Becca felt a crunch under her foot she looked up and froze. Snow?! She had never even been in a place this cold. There was no reason to ever make a place this cold! She looked up at the ceiling. It was so tall she couldn't see where the snow was coming from - just that it was falling down onto everyone. 

"It's the Winter Solstice!" Wells was smiling brightly. "Every year we celebrate the holidays we kept on our old home planet. This was our most beloved holiday. Come on, let's get some cake!"

Becca was in shock as she followed Wells. She had never seen anything like it. There were stalls with beautiful food and little trinkets surrounding the paths of the town center.

Back at the Waller Farm, it was still summer. It would be whiplash for it to suddenly be Winter for most people, but Becca was from the colonies. She had never experienced seasons at all. Just the grey day to day of a well balanced life support system.

"Now I need to warn you..." Wells softly laughed. "These desserts are very rich. If you eat as much as you want, you'll likely throw up pretty quickly."

Becca nodded. She had heard Rash talking about how he had been given a lot of food in return for helping out. She didn't need to try it all out at the festival. She could wait until she was back home. It was amazing to her how quickly the Waller Farm was home to her. It was almost like she had cut all of the emotional threads that connected her to the colony ship. This was who she was and who she was meant to be. 

Becca froze for a moment. "Wells, I have a question."

Wells looked back at her. "Yes dear?"

"I'm happy because you adopted me." Becca looked down at her hands as she picked at her fingernails. "You can't adopt enough people to prevent societal collapse. Will... Other people be willing to adopt people like me?"

"Honey!" Wells hugged Becca. "If everyone who comes here is as wonderful as you, they will find their mamas and papas with no trouble at all. I know plenty of old ladies and old men who would love to have a brand new child to love on... Especially if that child is an adult who does all of the farm work!"

Becca laughed. "I just... I don't want this to be lost. I want to do everything I can to help."

"And you're helping, dear." Wells hugged her tighter.
