"My magic is broken." McKenzie announced as she entered her dorm room after getting lost for the remainder of the school day.
Aliyah pulled herself away from her desk and turned in her chair towards McKenzie. "Wait, really? Who said?"
"You know the old lady with the flowery robes?" McKenzie sat down on her bed. "She said I have the wrong skin color."
Aliyah felt a pang of anger at the phrase 'wrong skin color' until she remembered that McKenzie was definitely under a spell that altered her appearance. She took a moment to collect her thoughts before asking, "Did she tell you you're not European?"
"I'm part European because I have one thing in my throat, but I'm In... Something because my skin is the port thing." McKenzie shrugged.
Aliyah hid the fact that she was celebrating not being the only BIPOC woman in the school. She composed herself. "That means you are Latina. Very interesting."
Meanwhile...
Charlotte blushed as she opened the door to her apartment and saw Tobias in his usual human disguise. "Oh, I didn't think this through. Come in."
Tobias looked around the living room. It was nice with almost no personal touches. When Charlotte gestured for him to sit down on she couch, he sat. He began to talk. "I got your text. I do think I have something that will work, but not really well."
"Anything is better than nothing." Charlotte sighed as she closed the door. "What is it?"
He pulled a ring from his pocket. "It doesn't affect elf magic, obviously, so I could..."
"Teleport!" Charlotte laughed. "Why are you here filling me in, when Mr. Elf could deliver it?"
Tobias groaned.
Moments later...
Both Aliyah and McKenzie jumped when a giant cloud of glittering powder appeared in their room. After it settled, they saw Mr. Elf standing on the floor, holding a ring above his head.
"Do you spy on us or something?" Aliyah groaned.
"Well, no." Mr. Elf forced himself to be jovial. "But I heard from a little birdie that one of my best friends needed a special magical relic!"
Aliyah stood and took the ring from Mr. Elf. She inspected it before taking a few steps and pressing the 'gem stone' against McKenzie's hand. "Huh!" A thin ring of skin around the ring was light brown. She pulled the ring away and inspected it. "It's pretty small."
"Well," Mr. Elf nervously laughed. "It will take me about a week to put together something larger. A little birdie told me your activator is in your neck... If this works, I can make a necklace!"
"Huh." Aliyah nodded along. "So, I'll test this out. We'll let Mrs. Moss- your birdie know how it works out."
"Alrighty then!" Mr. Elf forced out a jovial chuckle. "I guess..."
"Shoo, Mr. Elf." Aliyah waved her hand at him. "We have important matters to tend to."
McKenzie laughed until she looked over to him and whispered, "Sorry Mr. Elf."
