Cursed Teletubbies, part 4
Everyone told me I was an idiot for having a car in Los Angeles. Even with the public transit expansions starting in 2070, the 405 was still a parking lot.
But there was a part of me that knew things like this would come up. I was frazzled after the trip, but I tried to pull myself together as I got out of the car in front of the modest little house Max lived in. The heat was oppressive.
I grabbed the box of tapes. As I was walking to the door, Max opened it and ushered me in quickly.
"Wow." Max gasped as he closed the door behind us. "It really is you."
"Sorry I couldn't bring Booples - it's a whole thing." I stood awkwardly until Max took the box and led me into his studio.
"No, of course not." He sat down the box and pulled out a random tape. He rotated it in his hands as he studied it. "You said you want it verified? It's fake." He waited for me to do something other than look shocked. When I didn't, he continued. "From first glance, this is a genuine casing. You can tell it's old from the brittleness." He sat it down and picked up another that was completely identical to me. "This one is a modern recreation. You need to know what you're looking for - I only know because this is the exact model I use when I print new casings. There's small imperfections so that us tape heads know when it's being used to keep us from getting fooled."
"How do you know the first one is fake?"
He sat down the tape. "Physics. Let's say you had a magical tape that would never crumble or fall apart. Magnets lose their charge. If you hadn't sent me the example videos, I could play along as say that it was original... But no amount of AI could get quality like that."
"But..."
"Yeah, if this was a high quality master tape that was perfectly preserved, maybe you could have gotten that quality. But these are so cheap and were supposedly recorded with home VCR - it would probably have had that quality the day it was recorded."
I was deflated. "Well... Do you like our channel?"
He laughed. "Yeah, I'm not a productive adult, Greg. Analog horror is my favorite genre. Those videos are like tutorials on how to make it convincing."
"Well, I don't have any noncompete clause." I tilted my head a bit to drive my implication as hard as I could. "And I would love to see these tapes fully debunked."
His eyes widened. He covered his mouth with his hand. He blinked and lowered his hand. "Really?"
"I mean, yeah. If you're willing, I'd love to be a guest on your channel. It's really important for Booples' health that we know the real truth about these tapes."
He slowly nodded. "Yes, that would be... Wonderful."
How is Stikki Slime's bank?
Stikki has a two pitch CV bank. I am so confused. Her F3 pitch is actually F4. The prefix map has it all the way down to F3, implying the other pitch (which is also in the fourth octave) is lower! I get the mistake - different programs use different names. Because of the fact that the samples are in a subfolder, if you use the bank so that it has an icon and prefix map, only romaji samples will trigger the prefix map on my version of utau. I just had to make the ust romaji and edit the prefix map.
The otos are pretty darn good! She has a wonderful voice with awesome recording quality!
Where Can I download Stikki Slime?
You can download her from her wiki page. She's super cool!
