Forgotten Friday #302 - 星牙ソラ / Seiga Sora
Sora is a nine year old golden tiger man. He loves oranges and eels.

She was panicking. The creature was in intense pain and she was surrounded by strange creatures. She had only seen one of them, but she heard the voice of a second one. She tried to move to get easy, but it just hurt.
She closed her eyes as hard as she could when the second voice came back louder and clearer. Then she felt something in her hand. It was a ball, but something was coming out of it. She opened her eyes enough to see paper. She reached out as best as she could and wrote down the character for 'neck'. The strange beings spoke in a language she had never heard. She felt something slide under her neck and gently lift it up. She finally was able to be still! She was sore, but the stabbing pain was gone.
Mary looked up at John. She didn't need any kind of words to see that the creature was feeling better.
John shook his head. "We need pillows."
"I'll hold the head up and you grab those?" Mary slowly slid her hand up the creature's neck until she was able to gently lift her head enough for John to slide the pillows under her neck to prop her up.
Once the pillows were in place, Mary gently lowered the creature's head onto the pillow. John picked up a notepad and wrote "are you okay?" in simplified characters. He held the notepad up so that the creature could read it.
The creature looked at his face. It was so strange. She looked down at the paper and used the pencil stabbed through the ball to write the character for "where".
John looked away from her as he tried to think. The most likely thing that came to his mind was that the characters retained the same meaning, but were completely scrambled due to differences in grammar. He couldn't just write in Mandarin and expect her to be able to understand and respond.
"Rosetta Stone." Mary knew John well enough that she could understand what he was thinking without him saying anything. He wrote a sentence and got a word. He would obviously be thinking about it from a language perspective. "If it isn't just because she's in pain, maybe some kind of Rosetta Stone software could get her speaking human?"
"It's an interesting thing." John sat down and looked at the creature. She looked relieved and like she didn't really care as long as she wasn't in pain. "I hated it, but I had to run my English as a second language classes using immersion for a while. The higher ups would tell you that we just need to speak English at her and she'll catch on."
"She won't, will she?" Mary crossed her arms across her chest.
"It depends." John shook his head. "But we'll find out, right? This one isn't the only... You said Lion Llama?"
"Cat Camel?" Mary let out a soft laugh. "Yes, she's not the only one."
