Here is a story about an alien invasion! This is unrelated to my "Union Universe" where Earth was never contacted outside of recon missions using portals that bend spacetime. In that universe, Earth had long been eaten by the sun by the time anyone figured out it had existed. 

I was just sitting on the swing, staring at the school building when she sat on the swing next to me. I was barely moving, but she was fidgeting. I looked over at her. 

Everyone kind of imagined what would happen if aliens came to Earth. There were so many stories about them destroying us all or doing horrible things.

But instead... They just yelled at our leaders to change everything without ever using violent forces. Somehow, it was working. 

I didn't think much of it myself. 

I looked over at her. She was pretty, but I could tell she wasn't exactly human. There were so many of them, one family sent to each area, but you never really saw them. Seeing her going to the same public school as me was rare. Even after the aliens put the reforms into place, they couldn't fix the apathy that sprung up in small towns. 

"Hey." I tilted my head slightly. "Can I ask a personal question?"

She jumped just a bit. She knew I was talking to her, but it seemed like she couldn't believe it. She looked back at me and gave a small nod. 

"Why do you have five fingers?"

I couldn't understand her facial expression. I was always told that the French frown when Americans would have smiled, so I understood why I didn't understand. 

She cleared her throat. I had never heard her speak. The teachers were a weird kind of racist and never called on her. It could have been respecting her wish to be quiet or pretending she wasn't there. Her voice was soft and light like some kind of bell. "Why do you have five fingers?"

Her English was flawless with no 'strange' accent. She sounded more like an actress on TV than someone from here. I shrugged. "For humans, fingers started out as bones in fish fins. There were a ton, but then there were less and less."

She stared at me blankly. 

I didn't really feel shame. "I think most animals with back bones don't have more than five fingers. Probably not really useful to have more."

"Then..." She looked away from me. "You just wanted to tell me that you know about evolution?"

"I mean," I shrugged. "That's kinda interesting, right? That I believe in it?"

Her head snapped back so that she was looking at me again. The look of disgust and shock must have been universal. Her expression changed to one I couldn't read. "Are... You trying to be my friend?"

"Yes." I nodded. "Ever notice how no one talks to me either?"

Her face went blank. She was surely trying to remember her training. She smiled like a human. "Okay!"

How Are Orenju's Banks?

Orenju has two vcv banks: Tripitch and Clear.

Tripitch is a bank with three pitches. The pitch G4 is incorrectly named (it is G3), but the placement in the prefix map is okay! Orenju has a wonderful voice, but there are some issues. One of the files used in this tester ust is just the wrong file. Thankfully, this is a three pitch bank. You can delete the incorrect aliases and then duplicate the correct settings from the correct... I can't word good. You can yoink sounds from other pitches so that can sing correct. I did not do this.

Clear has three pitches and an extra soft pitches for each pitch. The previous bank had nearly perfect otos expect I didn't personally like the preutterance setting, but the bank with no suffix uses an oto method that is not the commonly accepted method. However, the weak bank has the same method as the previous bank. I fixed up the normal otos in this sample to match the weak otos. 

He has a very wonderful voice! The weak pitches are extra lovely.
