Forgotten Friday #302 - ワウマフ / Waumafu

Waumafu is a three year old female animal. I had assumed she was a dog, but I think she's not.

John waited a bit. He know he couldn't just try to have a written conversation in Mandarin or Cantonese with the creature. But he could try and get his point across. He grabbed two new notebooks and sat on a chair next to the bed. He wrote down the character for hunger and held it up. He cleared his throat so that the creature would look up at him. 

She slowly opened her eyes. He laid an open blank notebook in front of her. She took the pencil he had given her and wrote the character for rice. This was not extremely helpful as rice also could mean any cooked meal. He looked towards the doorway and called out: "Ya got rice?"

"Well, no." Mary popped into the room. "Would oatmeal be okay?"

"It has to be, I guess." John sighed as Mary hurried down the stairs to the kitchen. He wrote down the word for name and held it up. He pointed at the creature.

She spoke her name, but John couldn't catch it to even repeat it. She sighed and wrote down two characters. One of them was completely illegible and likely not a real character on Earth. But the other was related to gemstones.

"Gem?" John pointed at the word for name and then pointed at her. "Gem?"

"Ch... H... Tsen?" The creature was confused.

John sighed. "Tsen?" He needed a way to refer to her. Gem was his best bet. It was funny to him - Jim was replaced by Gem. Due to the pin-pen merger in his old hometown down South, they sounded identical to him when he was in his English mindset.

Mary made her way in with a bowl of oatmeal. It was unflavored and unsweetened. She sat the bowl down in front of Gem on the bed. 

Gem awkwardly moved herself so that she could grab the bowl. The metal spoon felt familiar to her. Her people used different spoons, but she had seen metal ones before. She carefully began to eat in a very typical human way. 

"Glad they like it!" Mary smiled. "I was worried."

"I just wish that we could ask her more detailed questions." John shook his head. "Oh, I named her Gem and decided she's a girl. One of the characters in her name looked... Really wrong, but it had a radical usually used for things related to women."

"So, what's the theory?" Mary crossed her arms across her chest nervously. "Things are going crazy on social media. A lot of conflicting reports."

"So, you know..." John stopped when he noticed Gem had finished the bowl of oatmeal. "Do you think she needs to use the bathroom?"

"I... I feel like I don't want to think so." Mary shook her head. These creatures were nearly the size of horses. "Like, she speaks. Do you think she knows what a Western toilet even... How to use one?"

"Probably not." John sighed. "I don't think that would work."

How Is Waumafu's bank?

Waumafu is an inanimate sound source and an animal sound source. She has a music box, some kind of striking sound, a dog bark, and a cat's meow.
