With some prodding from Vanessa, Becky was shoveling food into her mouth as if she hadn't eaten for months. The main reason was that once she swallowed, the food seemed to just disappear. She felt a strange feeling of being more… better. As if she were replenishing hit points instead of actually eating. It didn't hurt that it just tasted amazing to her.

A chill fell over the room as the door to the tavern was thrown open. Everyone except for Becky jerked their heads to see Blade in the doorway. He glided across the floor as if he was hearing his own theme music in his head. He stood behind Becky and scoffed. "You call yourself a priestess?"

"No," Becky mumbled through a full mouth. "Not a priestess."

Blade scowled as he saw Faulkner gathering sheet music at the saw chord. "Is that how the brute collected gold? With such…"

"You're a (...)" Becky swallowed her food and turned back to Blade. "I know you're supposed to have a redemption arc. But could you shut up until that point?"

Vanessa silently laughed. She was supposed to tell Becky to simmer down. But the indignation on Blade's face was too hilarious. Blade had ignored the fact that Becky wasn't a priestess, so he wouldn't allow himself to directly insult her. 

He huffed as he took a seat next to Becky. 

Jasper returned from helping clean the dishes. He froze when he saw Blade. Vanessa stood and hugged Jasper as she stared down Blade.

"What did you even do to the kid, Titanium Blade?" Becky narrowed her eyes as she stared at him. "And why?"

Jasper spoke up. "He yelled at me and said very bad words."

Vanessa pulled away from Jasper and started signing vulgar insults. Becky laughed at how creative they were. She gained composure when she realized how frightened Jasper was. Becky turned to Blade and crossed her arms over her chest. "We need to be friends. If you can't do that, shut up and follow us around. We need to stay here one more night. Then we'll head out to get equipment. We'll reassess the situation after that point."

Blade huffed. With perfectly plot relevant timing, Faulkner began to sing and play the saw chord. Like magic, people began to file into the tavern to listen and dance. Becky noticed that Jasper had a pained look on his face.

"Hey," Becky silently signed to Vanessa, "Jasper looks like he's overstimulated. What should we do?"

"He should still have some gold. Take him to the shop to calm down and get some candy." Vanessa's face was solemn as she responded. "I would love to take care of the issue, but he can't understand me."

Becky gave a quick nod before standing and gently escorting Jasper out of the tavern and onto the street. His eyes were glassy and blank as she knelt down to his eye level. "You okay, buddy?"

His expression came back, but he looked tired. Becky led him into the shop. It may have been a bit too bright and colorful, but it was quiet.
